Muse – “Starlight”

When: October 2006
Where: San Gabriel and Foothill bus stop
Who: My mother
Weather: foggy

In October of 2006, I had my best dreams. They were totally real, the people, the locations, and they weren’t scary at all, save for a Back to the Future-inspired dream of an evil cyborg Doc Brown, which the internet tells me is not that uncommon for people just getting into Back to the Future. I was able to control them for a while, and I woke up invigorated. It was in this spirit that I actually, briefly enjoyed the music of Muse.

Muse – “Knights of Cydonia”

When: August 2006
Where: Rosemead Boulevard
Who: My mother
Weather: Hot, dry

My mom and I were fighting about something and this song was the last straw.

Next: 2006, the final act. The school year resumes, still nothing happens, and I take a vow on my 17th birthday to change all of that.

Muse – “Time is Running Out”

When: March 2004
Where: My garage
Who: Nobody
Weather: Rain

The rain does something weird to the radio in my garage. Everything becomes fuzzier, but the effect is not always bad. I was working on the model railroad for nearly the last time when this song came on. I thought the band was way too melodramatic, but the fuzziness really made it better.
