When: June 2003
Where: The 210 westbound through the Inland Empire
Who: My mother
Weather: Hot, dry
After dressing as a samurai for my school’s end-of-year history ball, I decided that I should go to the Renaissance Fair. In Southern California, the Renaissance Fair is just something everybody does; it’s famous as a place where young couples break up. So I went for the first time ever, I had a good time, and I got myself a journal. It was a regular black journal in a leather cover, but it was only $10 anyway.
When I came home, I wrote an entry in that journal. Then it sat in a drawer…for four years. When I found it again, its time had come.
Next: A different kind of summer.
